Harrison-Hunter-Harper-Fuller House "The Oaks" - circa 1849
Dallas County Historical Survey Candidate If the county were to commission a Historic Survey of significant buildings, houses and locations the "Oaks" would certainly be at the top of the list. The home was built by Kirkland Harrison in 1849. The present owners purchased the property in 2000 and are continuing to renovate this Antebellum Greek Revival home. Six massive columns support and expansive porch that runs the width of the home. Seated on a ridge, this home has an impressive vista that takes in the wild nature of Alabama's landscape. Historic/Common Name: "The Oaks" Property Location: 107 Landline Road Property Owner Timeline: Current - Fullers Previous - Harper, Hunter, Harrison Date of Construction: (1849) ARCHITECTURAL SUMMARY: This two story Antebellum Greek Revival home has a full length front porch supported by six Doric like columns with straight sides instead of a round fluted column. Large six-over-six windows adorn the buildings facade both upstairs and down, and the entryway has a square glass surround. Two interior chimneys are apparent.. NATIONAL REGISTER ASSESSMENT: The house is a handsome example of the Greek Revival influences of the period and contributes to the County's historic survey for its architectural significance.
