Cemetery Tours

Friday and Saturday, 6:00 – 8:00 pm

300 Dallas Avenue

Twilight is a special time during Pilgrimage when the ghostly residents of Selma step out of the shadows to meet the living in Old Live Oak Cemetery.

Visitors will be led on evening tours both Friday and Saturday to hear some of Selma’s former citizens tell how they helped shape American history. The "ghosts" vary each year and appear at the gravesites amid oak trees and sweeping Spanish Moss. Ghosts of former U.S. leaders, a former slave-turned-congressman, one of Abraham Lincoln’s Confederate sisters-in-law, 18th and 19th Century war heroes, civil rights activists, and many more are scheduled.

Among the ghosts who agreed to appear for the first time this year is Gen. Woody Davis, war hero from World War II and Viet Nam.  Also new this year are members of the Black Belt Paranormal Research Team, who will be on hand to answer questions about paranormal research and our ever popular documented hauntings here in Dallas County.

Tours begin at 6 pm, departing approximately every 30 minutes until 8 pm. Visitors are encouraged to bring a flashlight and wear comfortable shoes.  You are welcome to bring a canvas chair or stool if you would prefer not to stand during the stories. This is an event that will please both young and old.  (Not recommended for wheelchairs due to the rough terrain and limited paths in the cemetery.)

Tours are $10 each night or $15 for both Friday and Saturday evening.  Rain will cancel the cemetery tours; wet ground will not.
